Peace Tourism Commission


Peace Tourism Commission is a new commission that had its first meeting at the 25 the IPRA conference in Istanbul, Turkey in August 2014. It aims to foster research collaboration on the intersections of the prospects and challenges of peace and tourism. It is interested in furthering research on how tourism can promote and facilitate peace, conflict resolution, conflict negotiation, and conflict prevention. Presentations at its first IPRA General Conference in Istanbul included Tourism and Peace Building in Myanmar (Myanmar Tourism Federation); Peace Tourism in Hawaii--Challenging Militarism, Commercialism and Exoticism (St Marianna University, Japan); Tourism in a Conflict Zone: The Dubai Model (Zayed University, UAE);  Buddhism as Component of Peace in Regional Culture (Jawahar Lal Nehru University, India); Peace Tourism for Healing the Wounds of Violence (MTLP, Argentina); Tourism and its Resilience (International University, Bosnia and Herzegovina);Promoting Universal Rights Through Peace Tourism (University of South Australia and Curtin University, Australia);  The Gaza Virtual Museum Project (Gaza university Palestine).
